Betty Mueller

Services for Betty Lou (Popp) Mueller, 95, Tampa, who died Saturday at Marion Assisted Living, will be 10 a.m. March 13 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tampa.

Pastor Clark M. Davis will officiate. Relatives will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro.

Born Sept. 21, 1928, to Ira and Amelia (Schwemmer) Popp on a family farm near Tampa, she was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Tampa.

She graduated from Tampa High School in 1946 as valedictorian, attended Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina, and worked for a lawyer and Saline County Department of Social Welfare before her marriage.

She married Art Mueller on April 17, 1949, at St. John’s in Tampa. They farmed northeast of Tampa for more than 60 years. He died in September, 2013, but she continued to live on the farm until October, 2022, when she moved to Marion Assisted Living.

She was a 4-H community leader and a member of St. John’s, served on the zone board of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, and was church organist for 70 years, starting at 13 and continuing past 80.

Survivors include sons Dale of Folsom, California; Douglas of Lake Wissota, Wisconsin; and David of Tampa; sister Lola of White City; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with St. John’s.
