Betty Riedy
Services for Beatrice Mary (Silhan) Riedy, 103, of Hope, who died Nov. 27 at The Legacy in Herington, were Tuesday at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church, Hope. Burial was in St. Phillip’s Cemetery, rural Hope.
She was born July 21, 1921, at Pilsen to Peter and Christina (Urbanek) Silhan and graduated from Lincolnville High School in 1939.
She married Edwin V. Riedy on Sept. 15, 1941. They lived south of Hope, where they farmed and raised cattle.
Betty was a member of St. Phillips Catholic Church and Altar Society and the Home Demonstration Unit and a 4-H leader. She worked several years at Herington Municipal Hospital as a cook.
Survivors include daughters Joyce Martinez of Las Vegas, Carol Kellogg of Herington, and Linda C. Riedy of Salina; sons Glen Riedy of Hope and Lyle Riedy of Topeka; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Her husband; sons Elden and Gary Riedy; grandson Cory Riedy; a great-grandson; sisters Magdalen Dvorak and Mildred Ireland; and brothers Peter and Valerian Silhan preceded her in death.
A memorial has been established with St. Phillip’s Cemetery.
