Fire extinguished after it spreads to second structure

Fully engulfed in flames, an old grainery had already collapsed when Goessel firefighters arrived on the scene Monday evening at 130th and Diamond Rds. northeast of Goessel.
“There were the beginnings of flames starting in a second building when we got there,” Goessel Fire Chief Galen Miller said. “We quickly extinguished the fire and were able to salvage it along with everything inside.”
Firefighters fought the blaze from about 5:30 p.m. until about 7:00 p.m.
Miller said the old grainery seemed to have been used to shelter livestock, and was probably a total loss. However, firefighters reported finding no injured livestock.
“We believe the source of the fire was probably electrical in nature,” Miller said. “It was probably old wiring inside the grainery or a damaged electrical fence that started it.”
About 12 Goessel firefighters responded to the scene in five trucks.
Hillsboro fire also sent two trucks out as backup. One truck made it to the scene, but Miller canceled the second in route because firefighters had subdued the blaze.
