Bluebird boys take 5th at state

Hillsboro’s Funk finishes 5th, Marion’s Grimmett 19th

More than a dozen teams competed at class 1A and 2A state cross country Saturday at Victoria-Sand Plum Nature Trail.

Goessel

Goessel’s boy’s team finished fifth out of 12 teams.

The Bluebirds sent five boys. Team leader Ben Olson finished 23rd, Jacob Schrag, 41st, Timothy Schrag, 51st, Josiah Lapp, 64th, and Javin Schmidt, 69th.

Hillsboro

Trojan runner Emersyn Funk from Hillsboro placed fifth among Class 2A girls.

Marion

Marion High’s Heidi Grimmett placed 19th to medal in the 5,000 meter race and collapsed exhausted.

Three on Marion’s boys team competed Saturday in Victoria.

Team leader Gavin Wasmuth finished 29th; Luke Wessel, 46th; and Tristen Dye, 49th.
