Bluebirds finish football season with loss to Central Plains

Goessel’s football team closed out its season with a 60-12 loss to district-leading Central Plains on Thursday.
The Bluebirds marched into Oilers territory on their first possession, but a fourth down on pass to the end zone was intercepted. A second quarter driver to the Central Plains 1-yard line ended when Goessel couldn’t convert on fourth down.
The Oilers led 16-0 when Josh Schmidt connected on a pass to Trevor Beisel, who escaped several tackles to go 41 yards for a touchdown. Goessel’s joy was short-lived, as the Oilers returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for a score.
The Bluebirds’ Dylan Lindeman recovered a fumbled punt, but another Oiler interception stifled the chances for a Bluebird score.
Central Plains went up 32-6 before the Bluebirds mounted another scoring drive. Facing fourth-and-25 in Oilers territory, Schmidt heaved a pass to the back of the end zone that Beisel hauled in to make the score 32-12.
That would be Goessel’s last score. Central Plains led at half-time 40-12, and 54-12 at the end of the third quarter. The game ended in the fourth quarter 60-12.
Goessel gained 277 yards passing, with Beisel getting 9 catches for 143 yards and Jordan Griffen snagging 6 catches for 74 yards. Defensively, Schmidt was credited with 15 tackles followed by Lindeman with 8 and Zach Zogleman with 6.
The Bluebirds ended the season with a 5-4 record.
