The Bluebird football team struggled to get some rushing offense in a 48-0 loss to Hope Friday night.
The passing game netted 86 yards with Neal Brubaker connecting with Jake Smucker, Nic Buller, and Trey Schmidt three times each, while the rushing game could only churn out 46 yards. Hope scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and three in the second .
Goessel advanced inside the 10-yard line three times, but could not score. The 45-point “mercy rule” came into play early in the third period, ending the game when Hope scored again making the outcome, 48-0.
Alex Ross and Jonathan Berkholz each had four solo tackles to lead the defense for the Bluebirds.
Goessel is now 0-2 on the season with district games beginning Friday at home against Lincoln, 1-1.
