Bluegrass concert opens summer lineup

There’s no shortage of entertainment this year at the Marion County Park and Lake.

Bluegrass

The KBA Treblemakers and the Alfred Packer Memorial String band will be at the 6th annual “Bluegrass At the Lake” two-day concert event, held at the county lake beach area. It is free to the public. There also will be an open stage from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 14 and 4 to 6 p.m. June 15. The best performance will win the $100 grand prize. The Marion County Firefighters Association will provide concessions.

MOPS Run

The 2013 MOPS of Marion 5th annual Run For Your Momma will be Aug. 10 at the Marion County Lake. The half-marathon and relay starts at 6:30 a.m. The 5K Fun Run/Walk starts at 8 a.m. Registration and sign-in start one hour prior to each race time at the lake hall.

This year’s event features energy drinks at every stop, bigger medals, and more prize money.

Other upcoming events

Paddle Boat Races will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 10.

The 7th annual Chili Cook-off is from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 5.

The Midwest Polka Club Dance will be from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 19.
