The Tabor College men’s basketball team took a step forward and two steps back in the KCAC title chase last week.
The Bluejays first won 78-74 Jan. 22 in Wichita against Friends University, the 21st ranked team in NAIA Division 2.
Andrew Thomas led Tabor with 21 points and 8 rebounds on 9-for-11 shooting.
After defeating Friends, a team tied for first place in the conference, the Bluejays lost 92-72 to Kansas Wesleyan University, a 4-16 team one spot away from last in the conference.
Halfway through the conference schedule, the Bluejays are in fifth place in the KCAC with a 6-4 conference record. They play next against Bethany College at 8 p.m. tonight in Hillsboro, then again at home at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Lady Jays also split games
After losing to KCAC leader Southwestern College the previous week, the Tabor women took on second-placed Friends, losing 54-61.
The loss kept Tabor in third place, but the team is now tied with Ottawa, who defeated Friends Saturday.
The Bluejays won 57-46 Saturday against Kansas Wesleyan though, improving its conference record to 7-3.
The Lady Jays play Bethany next at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Hillsboro, followed by a home matchup with Bethel at 5 p.m. Saturday.
