Kelly White scored the only goal of the game Saturday and the Tabor College women’s soccer team picked up its first league victory in two years with a 1-0 defeat of the University of St. Mary.
“I am very proud of the women getting their first conference victory,” head coach Grant Brubacher said. “We had a great defensive effort to give us our first shutout of the season.
White’s goal on a pass from Jessica Burden helped Tabor improve to 1-0 in the KCAC and 2-6 overall.
Aubrey Whitehorn recorded seven saves in the shutout effort.
In a match played Sept. 29 the Bluejays fell to William Woods University 4-0 in Fulton, Mo.
The Bluejays play today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at home against McPherson College.
KCAC accolades
Sophomore Leigh Costello (The Colony, Texas) was named the KCAC women’s soccer offensive player of the week for her Sept. 24 performance against Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Costello assisted on the first goal of the match, and scored what proved to be the game-winner to help Tabor end a 12-game losing streak.
“I was really proud of the women’s effort against Oklahoma Wesleyan,” Brubacher said. “Leigh was a big part of that, getting us an assist and then the goal off the free kick.”
