Bookkeeper has local roots

Staff writer

Since Monday morning, a somewhat familiar face has occupied the front office of Hoch Publishing Company. Tena Maggard Lundgren will be the new bookkeeper for the newspaper publisher.

“I was born here, grew up in the community, and graduated from Marion High School in 1980,” she said. She married Jim Reid and the couple had two daughters, Johsie and Nikki.

Her husband died of a brain aneurism in 2008 when the couple was living in Colorado. Tena moved back to Marion and in June she married Ken Lundgren.

“People have asked me how we met,” she said. “There was actually never a time when we didn’t know each other — our mothers were best friends when they were growing up.”

Lundgren has an extensive background in bookkeeping, but took additional computer classes to help bring her up to speed with the programs common in such work today.

“I worked for the city of Marion for seven years after I graduated from high school,” Lundgren said. “Then when we lived in Colorado, I worked for Kroger, but that was working with files and records within their own system.

“This is pretty new and feels a bit overwhelming,” she added. “But I’ll catch on.”
