Brackets set for Trojan Classic

Hillsboro (7-1), ranked No. 7 in the state in the latest Class 2-A poll, will face Sunrise Christian (7-4) at 7 p.m. Monday and Clay Center (1-6) at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 19 in pool contests for the Trojan Classic basketball tournament next week.

Sunrise and Clay Center will face each other at 6 p.m. Tuesday to complete pool play. All games will be at the high school gym.

Tournament finals Jan. 20 will pit pool teams against bracket teams. Bracket games will be Tuesday and Jan. 19.

Hesston (7-1) will face Riley County (3-4) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tabor College, and Holcomb (6-1) will play Republic County (4-4) at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the high school.

Winners will face off at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the high school. Losers will play at 7:30 p.m. at Tabor.

Top finishers from bracket and pool play will advance to the championship game at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at the high school. Consolation games will be earlier in the day at the high school and middle school.

The girls portion of the tournament will feature a traditional eight-team bracket.

Hillsboro (5-3), the No. 5 seed, will play Sunrise (9-4) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the high school.

Other first-round matchups Tuesday will pit Clay Center (6-1) against Eureka, Hesston (6-2) against Republic County (1-7), and Riley County (5-2) against Holcomb (4-3).

First-round games will be played at 4:30 and 6 p.m. at Tabor and at 3 p.m. at the high school.

Second-round games on the winners’ side will be at 3 and 6 p.m. Friday at the high school. Losers’ bracket games will be at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Tabor.

The championship will be at 5:45 p.m. Saturday at the high school. Consolation games will be earlier in the day at the high school and middle school.
