Brittny Czarnowsky heading to state cross country

Contributing writer

Brittny Czarnowsky will wear the Bluebird cross-country Uniform one more time Saturday at the 1A division 1 state cross-country meet at Wamego.

She qualified with a fifth-place finish at the regional meet on Saturday in Wichita. The Goessel senior ran a time of 17 minutes, 24 seconds. In an exciting finish, there were five runners coming to the finish line stride for stride to earn the 4th through 8th place medals. As the five runners crossed the finish line, they were clocked with only four seconds between fourth and eighth place.

Czarnowsky’s qualifying time is 27 seconds faster than last year. In 2010 she finished 29th at the state meet.

The Goessel boy’s cross-country team members finished fairly close together, but none received medals.

Heath Goertzen and Ben Wiens both clocked in at 20:07 for 20th and 21st place, respectively. Nathan Czarnowsky finished 24th, 20:32, Grant Flaming was 25th, 20:53, Stephen Goertzen came in 26th, 20:59. Rounding out the Goessel team were Dan Smucker, 32nd, and Jake Herrel, 34th.
