Cabinet shop to be dedicated Sunday

Mennonite Disaster Service Kansas Unit will dedicate a newly completed cabinet shop in Goessel from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The cabinet shop is at 604 E. Main St., Goessel.

The shop, staffed by local volunteers, already is crafting and distributing kitchen cabinets to volunteer-built homes across the country.

The shop is able to produce cabinets for $600 a set, compared to an average $2,500 the group would spend on purchasing a set of cabinets.

The dedication will include tours of the shop and warehouse and a 5:30 p.m. fundraising concert by September River, a family band featuring Jude and Doug Krehbiel and their daughter, Stefanie Giffin.

The music of September River, based in central Kansas, incorporates elements of bluegrass, gospel, blues, acoustic rock, Irish, and folk.

An MDS Storm Encounter trailer will be on hand for people who want to experience a simulated tornado, then see how MDS volunteers rest
