Street rod and classic car enthusiasts from many cities gathered to show off their prized cars at Affordable Street Rods’ second annual open house and car show Saturday.
A large and appreciative crowd strolled the grounds to view the many cars on display.
Jack Walden brought his 1933 Ford 5-window coupe from Wichita. He bought the car in 1985. It still has the original frame and body.
“Everything’s Henry Ford on there,” Walden said.
The engine, however, is newer. It has a 1987 motor he bought with 40,000 miles on it.
Jim Smith, also of Wichita, showed off his Honda red 1932 Ford 3-window Coupe.
He seldom displays the car, but its eye-catching color brought many people to walk over for a closer look.
The Ford sports a California license plate. Smith said Saturday was the first time he showed the car in Peabody.
Henry Wolfe, Newton, didn’t bring a car to show, but is working on a 1923 Track T replica of a dry lakes racecar. He bought his project car in 1985 and has worked on it as time and money allow.
The body is a 1923 Ford, but the rest of the car is custom, he said. It will have a sprint nose.
He hopes to finish the work, which is about 85% done, and plans to bring the car to next year’s show.
Several car owners gathered around to ask El Dorado resident Randall McIntosh about a 1935 Ford pickup he bought seven years ago from original builder Mike Yoder, of Hutchinson. It has a 1989 Quad 4 engine.
