Cattle operation goes solar

A Ramona cattle operation now has an array of solar panels to defray its energy costs.

Cow Camp Feed Yard’s recently completed 16.38-kilowatt solar system, which cost $19,656 to build, is expected to replace nearly 45% of the farm’s energy usage.

Renewable energy consultant Cleaner Greener Future helped Cow Camp get a grant for the project. The firm specializes in assessing energy use, applying for grants, and arranging a contractors to install equipment.

“These grants are more than just financial aids; they’re investments in the heart of our rural communities,” Cleaner Greener owner Clint Morris said. “By significantly reducing operational costs, we’re not only helping businesses thrive but ensuring they continue to be the cornerstone of towns like ours.”

Cow Camp’s solar array is not yet fully operational because Cow Camp is working with its electrical company, DS&O Electric Cooperative, to finalize an agreement.
