Centenarian celebrated another year in Tampa

Staff writer

Tillie Hein of Tampa celebrated her 103rd birthday on Nov. 8 with a private dinner with her family at Tampa Senior Center.

“I’m doing really good for how old I am,” she said.

She still lives on the farm north of Tampa and drives to town to participate in community events. She also plays cards at Ramona.

Other than having her house cleaned once a month, Hein takes care of herself. Her family brings her food, so she doesn’t have to do a lot of cooking.

Hein said she enjoys riding along with her grandson, Jimmie Srajer, when he harvests grain or feeds cattle. He farms her land.

Jimmie and his wife, Kris, check on her often and supply her with things she needs.

Because of a back problem, she doesn’t do as much baking as she used to and she spends more time at home.

“I don’t mind being home,” she said.
