CENTRE: Five newcomers join Centre's golf team

Staff writer

Two seniors, Elias Jirak and Matthew Madron, have returned to the Centre golf team this spring.

Five newcomers are on the team. Two of them, Bradley Alexander and Sam Woods, both sophomores, have some experience playing golf outside of high school including a few tournaments.

The others are sophomore Matt Basore and freshmen Anthony Potocnik and Karsen Kroupa.

Three-year coach Max Venable said golf practice began last week. He hopes to have a varsity team of at least four players. He expects the team to medal in at least one of their meets.

Venable has high expectations for Jirak, who had a high score of 85 at the district meet as a sophomore.

β€œI expect Elias to place in the top 10 at the state tournament,” Venable said. β€œHe is very talented.”

Madron golfed as a freshman.
