Centre golf team looking for fourth trip to state

Staff writer

At least 16 athletes are out for golf this spring at Centre High School.

They include four seniors, two juniors, four sophomores, and six freshmen.

Greg Wyatt is in his 11th year as golf coach at CHS. He has taken a team to the state tourney the past three seasons — with ninth, seventh, and fifth-place finishes —and is hoping for a return trip this year.

The 2010 team saw a lot of success. They won six of 10 meets and finished second or third in most of the others. They finished a disappointing ninth at state.

“We were not pleased with our finish the last season and hope to improve upon that,” Wyatt said. “We hope to be in the top three this season.”

Four of the six state golfers return this season, with six others who could possibly step in and help the team achieve that goal this year, Wyatt said.

The returning letter-winners are seniors Adam Matz, Tyler Klenda, and Brian Burhoop, and sophomore Dylan Svitak.

Other members of the team are senior Benjamin Wirtz; juniors Trevor Hageberg and Chi Do; sophomores Kodey Johnson, James Wyatt, and PJ Potocnik; and freshmen Tanner Peterson, Karl Riffel, Dustin Jensen, Brett Muhlig, Kristy Laing, and Kaylenn Miller.
