Centre has issues with equipment

Staff writer

Centre has not accepted installation of new hydraulic volleyball equipment in the main gymnasium because it does not meet specifications approved last May.

Superintendent Larry Geist said the frame did not go up high enough to avoid obstructing high basketball passes.

The equipment was installed by BSN Sports, not Centre staff.

Geist said the company was trying to fix the problem. Its engineers are expected to come to the school and look at it. As of Tuesday, the company had taken no action.

“We are trying to get it taken care of as quick as possible,” Geist said. “If it is not fixed by the Feb. 14 board meeting, the company will have to take it back.”

At its regular January meeting, the board elected Terry Deines board president, and Steve Jirak vice president.

Adriane Richard and Tony Hett were installed as new members. Richards defeated Yvonne Burhoop as representative of the Burdick area, and Hett replaced Heather Steiner, who did not run again, as representative of the Pilsen area.

Other board members are Eric Carlson, Lance Diepenbrock, and Thieen Antoszyk.

The board extended superintendent Larry Geist’s contract for another year.
