Centre junior high logs perfect season

Staff writer

Centre’s junior high football team ended a perfect 6-0 season with a 52-34 victory Thursday at Wakefield.

The first quarter was tight, ending in a 6-6 tie. The game was tied again at 28-28 with 1:13 left in the second quarter, but the Cougars scored four touchdowns and two extra points before halftime.

Scott Hinkson batted down a Wakefield pass in the end zone, but Wakefield was successful in its next attempt.

Centre’s eight touchdowns were scored on passes from quarterback Brady Idleman to Hayden Dobbs, Cole Kroupa, Noah Brunner, and Cameron Howe. Idleman also ran for a touchdown.

Colby Diepenbrock was hurt late in the second quarter, and the game was switched to six-man because Centre was left with just seven players.

The game was called at halftime because of rain, and Centre walked away with an 18-point victory.

Assistant coach Dawson Raymer said the Cougars showed resilience and mental toughness throughout the season.

“The whole team played hard and did more than they thought they could,” he said. “It was a great year, to say the least.”
