Shooting 63 percent from the free-throw line, Centre won a fast-paced game of runs Friday with Peabody-Burns, 63-55.

Peabody-Burns, coming off a third-place finish in the Cougar Classic, in which Centre did not play, wiped out a six-point Centre lead in the second quarter, tying the game at 22.

The Cougars picked up their game in the third quarter, as Luke Hudson, Silhan, and Gentri Holub combined for 14 unanswered points.

The Warriors then answered with eight consecutive points.

Mikey Silhan of Centre and Philip Young of Peabody-Burns then traded three-pointers to close the third quarter and created mounting excitement by repeating their exchange to open the fourth quarter.

After that, it became largely a contest of free throws. Peabody went to the line eight times for 13 points, and Centre went to the line 11 times for 19 points.

Centre’s Robert Spohn and Tanner Stuchlik came off the bench to score seven free throws, helping the Cougars to an eight-point victory.

Silhan was Centre’s leading scorer with 32 points, including 14 free throws and four three-point shots. He provided three assists.

Young scored 27 points for Peabody, including five three-point shots and 10 of 10 free throws.

Centre’s Luke Hudson added 11 points and had 16 rebounds, five assists, and seven steals. Peabody’s Alex Caldwell scored 7 points.

Playing Wakefield because Peabody-Burns isn’t fielding a girls’ team this year, the Cougars’ play was marred by numerous turnovers and missed shots.

Centre trailed 14-0 before Olivia Carlson made a basket.

Lexis Brewer made two free throws, Alex Remmers made a three-pointer, and Carlye Deines made a field goal before the end of the first half, but Wakefield led, 33-10.

Kaitlyn Bina scored three points in the third quarter, along with three points by Carlson, while Wakefield added nine.

Centre outscored Wakefield, 10-7 in the fourth quarter, but lost, 49-26.

Carlson was Centre’s leading scorer with eight. Brewer added six.
