Charities to benefit from Giving Tuesday

Staff writer

Peabody, Hillsboro, and Goessel will have fundraisers for local charities Tuesday.

Peabody’s fourth annual Giving Tuesday and Winterfest will be 5 to 8 p.m. at Peabody Burns High School.

The evening will begin with a 5 p.m. soup supper. Donations will go to various high school clubs and organizations. The high school’s Voices group and junior high singers will perform holiday music while guests visit charity booths to find out about their causes and make donations.

Visitors can sign up for gift baskets filled with merchandise donated by local businesses.

The Winterfest program, featuring final rounds of a basketball shooting contest, a student dance contest, a cheerleaders performance, and Peabody Community Foundation grants to teachers, will begin at 7 p.m. with drawings for gift baskets.

Up to $12,000 in donations will be matched this year by the Jewell family and current and former Peabody Community Foundation board members.

Hillsboro Community Foundation’s Giving Tuesday will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hillsboro City Hall.

Various Foundation fund representatives will be on hand to talk about their projects. Donations from the public will be matched.

The Foundation’s Happy Heart Giving Tree will be on display and the public is invited to take a tag from the tree and buy gifts for the children represented. Each donor will get a Happy Heart from the Giving Tree.

Goessel’s Giving Tuesday will be 5 to 7 p.m. at Goessel City Building.

Pianists Mary Rosefeld and Joann Nickel will perform Christmas music and refreshments will be served.
