Check out the fees on local bank accounts

If you want free personal checking, most banks in the county will accommodate that need — but some with terms.

Otherwise, banks offer an array of personal and business checking accounts.

Great Plains Federal Credit Union

Great Plains does not offer business accounts except for sole proprietors that use checking accounts with designations “doing business as.”

Members must have a minimum of $25 in a savings account to establish themselves as members of the credit union.

Economy accounts have no minimum balance and no monthly service fee but don’t pay dividends. There are no limitations on the number of transactions, and debit cards are available.

Regular accounts earn interest on balances of $500 or more. A monthly fee of $7.50 is charged if the balance drops below $500 during the month.

Money market accounts earn interest on balances of $2,500 or more, but not if the balance drops below $2,500 during the month. Six checks are allowed each month. Additional checks are charged $3 each.

With all accounts, overdraft fees are $25.

Tampa State Bank

Tampa State Bank’s passbook checking and senior checking accounts have no minimum balances except that they must have sufficient balances to cover checks written. No monthly maintenance fees are charged.

Non-interest electronic checking accounts have no monthly service fees.

NOW accounts have a $5 monthly fee if the balance drops below $1,000 during the month.

Overdraft and returned check fees are $30.

Marion National Bank

None of Marion National Bank’s checking accounts have a set monthly fee, but a $5 fee will be charged if the monthly average balance falls below $100.

The bank offers regular, NOW, and money market personal checking accounts.

Money market accounts pay interest on balances of more than $100. Like other checking accounts, a $5 fee is charged if the monthly average balance falls below $100.

Business checking accounts are treated the same as personal checking accounts.

Overdraft fees are $30 per item. If a check is deposited to the account and gets returned, the bank charges a $10 fee.

Hillsboro State Bank

Hillsboro State Bank’s basic personal checking account has a $2 statement fee, but that is waived if statements are delivered electronically instead of printed.

Interest-bearing checking accounts earn interest on balances of $2,500 and above. A $10 monthly fee is charged if the balance falls below $2,500. A $2 statement fee is waived if statements are electronic.

Classic checking accounts, available for customers 65 and older, have no monthly fee, earn interest on balances of more than $2,500, and get monthly statements with images.

Money market accounts are limited to six checks or debits a month, earn interest on balances of $2,500 or more, and are assessed a $15 fee if the balance drops below $2,500. A $2 statement fee can be avoided if statements are electronic. If more than six withdrawals are made in a month, each excess withdrawal is charged $5.

Business checking accounts are charged a $10 fee if the balance drops below $2,500. Statements have images. The accounts earn interest on balances of $5,000 or more.

Non-profit or sole proprietor checking accounts have a $2 statement fee that is waived if statements are delivered electronically.

Business money market accounts allow six checks or debits per month and earn interest on balances of more than $5,000. If a balance drops below $5,000, the account is charged $15. Although the first six withdrawals are free, each withdrawal after that is charged $5.

Central National Bank

Central National Bank offers three personal checking accounts.

Basic checking accounts have a $3 monthly statement fee unless the account owner opts for electronic statements.

Value checking accounts have a $5 monthly fee but no charge for online bill payment.

Premium checking accounts earn interest. Printed statements and electronic monthly statements are available. A monthly fee of $7 is waived if the account holder has deposits of $2,500 or more on the day the statement is produced.

Three business checking accounts are available.

A value account has a $10 monthly fee for paper statements or a $5 month fee for electronic statements.

Premium accounts have a $30 monthly fee and a choice of paper or electronic statements. Account holders may choose one business solution from electronic deposits and withdrawals, remote deposits, or a customer payment portal.

Business unlimited accounts have a $50 monthly fee. Electronic deposits and withdrawals, remote deposits, and a customer payment portal are available.

Cottonwood Valley Bank

Cottonwood Valley Bank, with branches in Florence and Lincolnville, offers both personal and business checking.

For all accounts, overdraft fees are $35. Credit or debit cards are available.

Personal checking accounts require an average daily balance of $300 to avoid a $5 monthly maintenance fee. The maintenance fee is waived if the checking account is used for direct deposits.

Student checking accounts are available to customers 22 and younger who are enrolled in school. Student accounts have the same criteria as personal checking but require no minimum balance.

Business checking accounts have a $300 average minimum balance or are subject to a $5 monthly fee. Monthly statements are provided.

Checking accounts earn interest no matter what the account balance but have a $7.50 monthly maintenance fee if the average daily balance falls below $1,000 plus a 10-cent fee for each debit after 20 per month.

If the average daily balance is more than $2,500, no debit or monthly fees are charged. Monthly statements are included.

Personal money market checking accounts pay interest regardless of the account balance. A $7.50 monthly maintenance fee is charged if the average daily balance falls below $2,500. More than six debits per month are charged $3 per debit.

Savings accounts have a $100 minimum to open and earn interest regardless of balance. If the balance falls below $100, a $5 monthly maintenance fee is charged. Three withdrawals per month are allowed at no charge, but additional withdrawals are charged $1 each.

Vintage State Bank

Vintage State Bank offers classic, interest, and premium personal checking accounts.

Classic accounts have a $6 monthly service charge if their balance falls below $300. Seniors 55 and older may request a $3 service charge instead.

Interest checking accounts earn interest on balances of $1,000 or more, but if balance falls below $1,000, a $6 monthly fee is charged. Thirty checks or debits are allowed a month, and additional checks or debits are charged a quarter each.

Premium checking accounts come with a $20,000 accidental death and dismemberment policy and a $7 monthly service charge.

The bank offers one type of business account. Its minimum daily balance is $500 and a service charge of $8 is assessed if the balance drops below $400.
