Cheer teams fires up for new year

Marion High cheerleaders are ready to roll out some new moves and a few old favorites this year.
But they have a lot of practice in store before they can show them off this fall.
Coach Alli Rice and the team worked on stunting and new dances they learned this July at Washburn University’s spirit camp.
The team lent their own style to every turn, high V, and jump as they worked out their routines.
The girls didn’t like a pose with their arms at their sides during parade rest so they settled on a more relaxed stance.
The team tore through “We want a touchdown” as older member showed the moves to newbies who were still learning.
“I am not sure when they will be ready,” Rice said, adding she still expects great things of the team.
Senior Emma Soyez and junior Arwen Fay are captain and co-captain this year.
Also on the roster are: Hannah May, senior; Brooklin Matthews, junior; Natalie Hoffner, sophomore; and Sara Groening, Addison Norris, Alexis Hostetler, and Alyera Koehn all freshmen.
