Members of the Hillsboro High School Chess Guild took home a championship trophy this weekend after winning the 2-1A State Chess Tournament.
Team members were Jonathan Hinerman, Franklin Jost, Kalen Moss, Matthew Denholm, and Jordan Fryhover.
Several also placed individually.
Fryhover placed fourth and Denholm placed 17th out of 153 players in the K-12 division.
In the K-8 division, all five students won at least three out of six of their matches. Abby Fryhover was the only medal winner, placing 34th out of 140 players. As a team, Fryhover, Jacob Denholm, Jacob Funk, Kayla Gunn, and Alex Lubbers placed ninth out of 26 teams.
Zachard Denhold placed 38th and Barron Talbott placed 89th, out of 104 players in the K-3 division.
