Two Hillsboro City Council seats will be up for election April 6. The deadline to file for candidacy is noon, Jan. 26.
Shelby Dirks of Ward 1 and Byron McCarty of Ward 2 currently hold the positions. The positions are two-year terms.
Washington Street is the dividing line between the wards through most of Hillsboro, City Clerk Jan Meisinger said. Ward 1 is west of Washington Street, and Ward 2 is east.
McCarty said Dec. 2 that he has not decided whether he will run for re-election, but he is leaning toward doing so.
Dirks said he is likely to run again, as well.
“I guess I hadn’t thought about it,” he said. “I’m fairly certain I will put my name in the hat.”
Filing for the election is done at the city clerk’s office. One of the following is required: a $5 filing fee, or a petition with 25 signatures or a petition with 10 percent of the ballots cast in the most recent general city election.
