Marion County residents will not have to travel far to find clothing for their children to wear on the first day of school.
Krista Matlock of Hillsboro has organized a back to school gala from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Church at Tabor.
The event will feature multiple vendors from the area, and will raise money for USD 410 with a raffle for two baskets featuring items from different vendors.
Raffle tickets cost $3 for one or $5 for two.
“My daughter is going to be starting kindergarten this year,” Matlock said. “We just moved to Hillsboro, and I thought it would be a nice way to start being a part of the school system.”
Matlock will sell clothing from LulaRoe, while other vendors include Trades of Hope, Thirty-One, Premier Designs, Kokonut and Kai, Sweetly Chic Boutique, Pampered Princess, and Young and Living.
Vendors will sell clothing, hair accessories, jewelry, bags, and essential oils.
“I don’t plan on stopping,” Matlock said. “In the fall and around Christmas, I hope to do this again where we can raise funds for other projects around Hillsboro.”
Matlock hopes that the event will encourage county residents to shop locally.
“We’re a bunch of moms who want to support our community and make a difference while working together,” she said. “Even if people don’t want to buy anything, they can come and support the school.”
