Commission considers group for EcoDevo ideas

Commissioners got in a few more words about economic development at Monday’s county commission meeting.

Commissioner Dan Holub discussed the idea of assembling a group that could take a deeper look at the county’s economic development and research what would help the county grow.

Chairman Randy Dallke agreed with Holub’s idea.

“”We don’t want fighting or arguing, we want to move ahead to everybody working together on something,” Dallke said. “The idea sounds great Dan. I agree with you 100 percent.”

Commissioners will try to put a plan together for a later meeting on how to get a group of volunteers together.

“We’ve got to get smarter about how we do things,” Holub said. “And this, in my mind, is a good place to start.”

Edward Jones financial consultant Chris Hernandez was present at the meeting, and praised the commissioners for the progress they were making.

“I’d like to commend you guys for moving forward, I know it’s not easy to make change,” Hernandez said. “It’s probably not easy to try to see through the trees and the forest that’s all around you. You’re doing something about it, or at least trying to.”

Economic Development director Theresa Huffman then brought up the idea of having a monthly community impact award that economic development would give to an individual or group that has impacted the communities.

Huffman reminded commissioners of her previous attempt at a monthly business award, but thought it might be more well attended if the award ceremony was in a different setting.

“If we gave the awards here at the commission meeting, maybe then they’d have recognition,” Huffman said.
