Commission votes on health benefits

After receiving options for county employee health rates Monday from BlueCross BlueShield, commissioners discussed different methods for the county to help pay for benefits.

The commission first voted to step up the county’s portion of its $606 family plan to pay $50 per month per employee, with the option to increase that amount to $100 in 2016. Commissioners also approved paying a $470 monthly option covering single employees.

Commissioners also discussed an updated dress code policy and buying shirts for county employees.

Because of its payday meeting Friday, the commission decided not to have a March 3 meeting.

In other business:

  • Commissioners approved a five-year purchase of a 2014 International dump truck from Williams Service for the road and bridge department. The vehicle, costing $130,177, includes a snowplow and bed hydraulics. Road and Bridge Superintendent Randy Crawford also informed commissioners he was looking for an operator to fill a position between Marion and Pilsen.
  • Commissioners approved a $1,323 firewall bid for courthouse security from CDWG.
  • Department on Aging Director Gayla Ratzlaff informed commissioners that commodities will be available at 7 a.m. on Wednesdays in March at Marion Senior Center.
  • Commissioners rejected a $6,250 proposal from Dana Dunn of P1 Group for a master planning survey of courthouse energy.
