Marion County consumers will have another dining option in about a month, after the renovation of Casey’s General Store in Hillsboro is complete.
Manager Vicki Holler said the renovation will expand the store, give it an entirely new look, and allow the business to provide new services.
“We’re bringing back pizza and adding made-to-order subs,” Holler said. “The remodel was a corporate decision. We also had a lot of people requesting that we bring back our pizza.”
The expansion will include more bathrooms, kitchen space, and floor space, she said.
Holler and five of 14 employees will work at the Casey’s in Marion until April 21 when Hillsboro Casey’s is scheduled to reopen, she said.
Monday was Holler’s first day in Marion.
“This is my fifth Casey’s,” Holler said. “I’ve been around the block. I’m pretty much just helping out wherever they need me. The others will learn how make pizza before we reopen.”
Holler said the nine other employees who were not temporarily reassigned to the Marion location were allowed to draw unemployment during the transition because there were no other Casey’s stores close enough for them to commute to.
The plan is for all employees to start work again when the business reopens.
“We are also going to need to hire about two or three more employees,” Holler said. “We’re excited to see how our new store turns out.”
