Cop finds drugs in squad car

Prisoner arrested on out-of-county warrants now faces charges here, too

Staff writer

Marion police chief Clinton Jeffrey often finds drugs in his line of work, but it isn’t often he finds them in his own car.

On Friday, Jeffrey arrested Marion resident Seth M. Daniels, 30, on Linn and Miami County warrants for domestic battery and possession of methamphetamine.

But when Jeffrey cleaned out the back of his car after taking Daniels to jail, he found methamphetamine in the back seat.

“I must have missed it during the search of the individual,” Jeffrey said. “I routinely clean out my patrol car prisoner transport area and had recently worked on emergency equipment in the vehicle that required removing part of the cage. There has not been anyone arrested by myself since the cage was installed in my vehicle, so no other person had been back there.”

Jeffrey’s surprise find resulted in a surprise for Daniels as well. Possession of methamphetamine was added to the charges for which Daniels was in jail.
