About 27 former students and of Grand Central School and their spouses had supper July 31 at a restaurant in Durham. The school was formerly located northwest of Durham. Wendell and Linda Wedel served supper to all in attendance.
Honored guests were teachers Joel and Josie Baltzer of Oklahoma. Former board member Henry Redger and patrons Harry and Lela Wedel also were present.
Other students attending were Roy and Nadine (Wedel) Davis and Steve and Cindy Wedel of Abilene; Dave and Sherlyn (Pankratz) Kadel of Jamestown; Darrel and Donita Rhodes, Larry and Wanda (Unruh) Koehn, and Warren and Jane (Wedel) Unruh of Lehigh; Ray Redger and a friend of Newton; Lane and Linda Dyck and Gerald and Pam Unruh of Salina; Randy and Tina Redger of Peabody; and Harry and Sheryl (Wedel) Rhodes.
Ron and Dora Unruh joined Jim, Brenda, and Derren Enns and other relatives at the home of Davis and Ashley Enns Aug. 1. They celebrated Caleb’s first birthday.
Ethel Steiner, 66, died July 26 at Memorial Hospital in McPherson. Her family formerly lived in the Durham community. Services were July 29 at the Morning Star Church. She is survived by John Steiner; David and Elaine Steiner and family of Montana; Jason and Deanne Koehn and family of Buhl, Idaho; Eric and Charity Hightower and family and Matt and Rochelle Mahaffey of California; and Randall Steiner of Kansas City.
Supper guests of Jerald and Kaylene Unruh July 30 in Hillsboro were Ron and Dora Unruh. They visited Alex DeWitt, Jerald’s nephew from San Antonio. Other guests were LaDonna Baltzer and Ashley Inman. Sherry Jost joined the group later.
LaVern and Lisa Litwiller and family of Kentucky came for Ethel Steiner’s funeral. They were houseguests of their parents, Bruce and Cheryl Dirks.
Ransom and Lillian Wiebe had many guests for dinner Aug. 1, including John Steiner, Tim Davis, David and Elaine Steiner and family, Jason and Deanne Koehn, Eric and Charity Hightower, Matt and Rochelle Mahaffey and Hannah, and Clayton and Betty Wiebe. The Steiner family returned home Aug. 2.
Bruce and Cheryl Dirks traveled July 31 to attend a wedding in Scotia, Neb. They returned that evening. They visited Irvin Isaac at Salem Home Aug. 1.
Close to 80 relatives and friends gathered Aug. 1 at the cottonwood Grove School to visit the Steiner family before they left the area. Refreshments were served.
