Community dinner draws crowd

Residents of Tampa and the surrounding area gathered for a community Christmas dinner Dec. 18 at the senior center. After the meal, many stayed to watch a movie.

Adeline Bernhardt visited Leo and Sue Yanda on Dec. 22.

Amanda Baxa of Wichita; Allison and Danielle Routh of Augusta; Melissa Stuchlik, Tanner, and Allie, and Andrea Kleiber, Eli, and Evan of Pilsen; and Kendra Baumberger of Salina came to Leona Kleiber’s home Dec. 22 to make and decorate Christmas cookies. Nick Kleiber joined them at noon, when Leona’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren treated her to dinner at a café.

Tom and Dee Duggan went to a Christmas dinner Dec. 22 at Hilltop Community Center in Herington.

Tim Kerbs stayed Dec. 22 with his mother, Lucille Kerbs, and they ate dinner out in Durham.

Jane Vajnar was an overnight guest Dec. 21 of Marc and Wendy Stroede in Kanopolis. The next morning, they visited with Amy Christiansen at Good Samaritan Home, Margaret Gourley at a local restaurant, and Joe Sneath in his home in Carneiro.

Cecilia Rziha of Dallas, Julie Rziha of Atchison, and Susie Rziha of Independence are spending Christmas break with their parents, Jerry and Jeanne Rziha.

Dale Clemmer of Salina and Mary Clemmer went to Emporia on Dec. 21. They visited Jann Jaggard and JoAnne Fowler and ate dinner out. After dinner, they visited Adeline Wood and Ranney Vogt at their care homes.

Tom Duggan attended a middle school basketball tournament Dec. 18 in Cottonwood Falls. His granddaughter, Kaylee Hall, came home with him and stayed the night. He also attended a middle school basketball game Dec. 20 in Herington. Kaylee was on the team.

Adeline Bernhardt visited Ken Klein on Dec. 20 to bring him birthday and Christmas greetings.

Deb Hall visited Tom and Dee Duggan on Dec. 18. Deb and Tom attended the Tampa community Christmas dinner.

Adeline Bernhardt visited David and Catarina Rziha, Isabel, Samuel, and Kathrine on Dec. 18.

Jane Vajnar accompanied Adeline Bernhardt on Dec. 17 to Marion for the board meeting of Senior Citizens of Marion County Inc. They came home through Hillsboro and shopped.

Adeline Bernhardt visited Iona Dietrich and Quentin Stuchlik on Dec. 17. Adeline was a visitor Dec. 16 of Alma Meyer.

Members of Tampa Triple T’s 4-H Club distributed Christmas baskets to the elderly Dec. 12.

Sunflower Senior Citizens held a Christmas party Dec. 14. Dinner at a café was followed by dessert and entertainment at the senior center. Centre Elementary School second-grade students and their teachers, Gail Lorson and Megan Stuchlik, presented a program. The group sang Christmas carols. Tom and Dee Duggan were hosts. Guests included Lincolnville senior citizens and other seniors from the community.

St. John’s Lutheran Church sponsored an outing to the Great Plains Theater on Dec. 12 in Abilene to see a production of “Church Basement Ladies.” Those attending were the Rev. Clark Davis and his wife Kathy, Becky Davis, Betty Mueller, Arnie and Judy Sommerfeld, Paul and Edna Backhus, Leona Kleiber, Adeline Bernhardt, Lucille Kerbs, Joyce Medley, Ray and Janet Bielefeld, Michele Berens, Rod Mueller, Phyllis Mueller, David Mueller, Jennifer Jay, Bev Reid, Leo and Sue Yanda, Jean Brunner, Jill Brunner, and Ken and Ira Lee Barnard.

Melissa Stuchlik and Tanner visited Leona Kleiber on Dec. 12 after the 4-H Christmas party.

Tom and Dee Duggan attended the Herington Middle School and High School concert Dec. 12. Their granddaughter, Kaylee Hall, performed a vocal solo with the chorus and played trumpet with the sixth-grade band.

Autumn Chisholm and Jane Vajnar attended the King’s Daughters Christmas party Dec. 9 at Durham Baptist Church. Hosts were the officers Ruth Hamm, Valera Hamm, Deb Owens, and Shirley Hamm. The program’s theme was “Home for Christmas” with the four letters of “home” representing significant aspects of Christmas. Heart sisters were revealed with an exchange of gifts. Names were drawn for 2011 heart sisters.

Evening visitors of Frank and Anna Mae Stika on Dec. 5 were Lori Moldenhauer, Nikki Stenzel, Mark Gilford, and Anna Weber.

The St. John’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League had a salad supper and Christmas party Dec. 2. The Rev. Clark Davis offered a prayer. Joyce Medley led devotions. The group sang Christmas carols. Prayer sisters were revealed and names were drawn for 2011. Betty Mueller and Joyce Medley were hosts. Others in attendance were Frieda Bentz, Lucille Kerbs, Edna Backhus, Cindy Bentz, Adeline Bernhardt, Becky Davis, Kathy Davis, Leona Kleiber, Alma Meyer, and Phyllis Mueller.

Becky Davis spent Thanksgiving weekend with her sister, Rachel Davis, in Charlotte, N.C.
