Letters are requested to support a grant application, proposed by PRIDE, for park improvements. Residents should submit letters to Michele Berens before Oct. 1. PRIDE members met Aug. 21 at the senior center to finalize plans for a co-ed ball tournament. The committee also discussed plans for the Santa Fe Trail Fest and reviewed needs for the grant application for a park at the former high school. The fest is planned for Oct. 9 and includes a medallion hunt, cakewalk, quilt show, tractor show, children’s games, a meal, and entertainment.

Two of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha’s daughters had been visiting but have now returned to college. Julie, who left Aug. 22, is attending Benedictine College in Atchison and Cecilia is completing graduate studies at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. She left Aug. 25.

Those helping Brad Backhus celebrate his birthday Aug. 22 with dinner out in McPherson included Tom and Bev Reid of Marion; Mike, Jennifer, and Cody Jay of Hillsboro; and Paul and Edna Backhus, Jason Backhus, and Alicia Barney.

Molly Kerbs of Salina stayed with her grandmother, Lucille Kerbs, on Aug. 22.

Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer went shopping Aug. 20 in Manhattan and Junction City. They ate supper out and visited Nikki Stenzel at her workplace.

Tom and Dee Duggan, Adeline Bernhardt, and Jane Vajnar attended a board meeting Aug. 20 of Senior Citizens of Marion County in Goessel.

Leona Kleiber visited Eleanor and Willis Herbel on Aug. 20.

Lucille Kerbs met Mildred Steinle of Lehigh in Hillsboro on Aug. 20 for dinner out.

Lori Moldenhauer and Greg Stenzel met friends for supper at the home of Nikki Stenzel on Aug. 19 in Manhattan to celebrate Greg’s birthday.
