Council holds special meeting

Hillsboro City Council had a special meeting Feb. 5 to complete a prior meeting scheduled for Feb. 4.
Council members approved an ordinance to vacate a drainage easement in the industrial park so Barkman Honey could expand its plant.
Barkman owner Brent Barkman spoke at the council’s public hearing Feb. 4.
In other news:
- At council member Shelby Dirks’ request, members postponed a decision to this week on an audit contract extension with accounting firm Adams, Brown, Beran, and Ball. Dirks was in South Dakota on a business trip.
- Members reappointed Sue Wadkins and appointed June Glasgow, Sam Hall, and Rod Hamm to the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
- Sales tax revenue totaled $675,187 in 2013, compared to $657,447 in 2012 and $610,238 in 2011. “Anybody that says Hillsboro is not doing well needs to look at this,” Mayor Delores Dalke said.
- Members approved a $4,563 lease with White Star Equipment and Bobcat for a new skid loader. The lease lasts for one year, then White Star and First Bank in Sterling will put the skid loader back on the market for sale.
