County fair organizers need theme thoughts

Staff writer

Marion County Fair organizers are turning to the public for help in choosing a theme for next year’s festivities.

There are no set guidelines, other than avoiding repeating previous themes. This year’s theme was “Country Pride, County Wide.”

So what makes a good theme?

“Something catchy, something that will draw people in and make them interested in coming out and seeing it,” fair manager Jena Terrell said.

Themes are used by 4-H clubs and with parades. The parade for next year’s fair — July 25-29, 2018, in Hillsboro — will move back to Wednesday. It was on Friday this year.

Terrell said the decision was made with feedback from people, and holding the parade at the beginning of the fair is better. The fair board, including five new members, will vote on a theme from among the suggestions.

“We got some new perspective and new insight with new people, so hopefully that will get us some fresh ideas this year,” Terrell said.

Creative minds can submit theme ideas by email at mncofairmanager@gmail.com.
