County official 'can't wait to get back'

Staff writer

Marion County Commissioner Bob Hein, of Hillsboro, is recovering quickly from surgery to remove a cranial blood clot.

Hein hit his head on his garage door. He didn’t think it caused any problems, but while working at the concession stand at a Hillsboro High School baseball game April 9, he fell. He fell again April 11 and went to a hospital. Doctors discovered he had a cranial blood clot and performed surgery to remove it.

After he returned home the first time, he wasn’t getting any better, so a follow-up surgery was needed to finish removing the clot, Hein said Monday.

Hein returned home May 19. He hopes to return to commission meetings sometime in June, as soon as he has a doctor’s clearance.

“I feel good,” he said. “I can’t hardly wait to get back.”

Hein thinks he could probably walk with a cane, but is taking the safe alternative of a walker until he is sure. The home health worker assisting him with rehabilitation said it’s amazing how quickly he is regaining strength.

“I’m doing real good, really,” Hein said.
