Cows cause 2nd crash on US-50
Staff writer
Just a few weeks after a Texas man died after hitting a bull on US-50, another motorist struck two cows Saturday.
The crash occurred on US-50 just west of Prairie Lawn Rd. Peabody police had been notified about loose cows on the highway by the Family Dollar and Dollar Tree but hadn’t located them. The westbound driver hit the cows — owned by Robert Kyle of Peabody — about 30 minutes later, just before 9 p.m.
The driver, Teresa Zimmerman, 52, Valley Center, sustained minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital. One of the cows died, Undersheriff Larry Starkey said. He said he thought the other survived.
“I don’t think they’d been in that pasture very long,” Starkey said. “That’s one of the first things cows will do is try to get out.”
Emergency responders found four other cows just east of the crash scene. The cows had pushed back into pasture.
It took about 90 minutes to get the scene cleaned up, Starkey said.
The cows were not owned by the same person who hit the bull last month, Starkey said.
