Crop assistance deadline is Friday

The application deadline for the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency for certain crops is Friday.

Crops eligible for benefits are limited to those not insurable in the county and produced for food or fiber.

The Friday deadline is for coarse grains, vegetables and melons, cotton, pecans, pumpkins, safflower, sesame, squash, and walnuts.

The administrative fee is $250 per crop per county, not to exceed $750 per county or $1,875 for multiple counties. Producers must pay the fee and file form CCC-471 before the deadline.

Coverage entitles eligible producers to a payment of 55 percent of an average market price for the commodity if a natural disaster caused a 50 percent or greater production loss.

If a producer does suffer a loss, form CCC-576 must be filed with the FSA within 15 calendar days of the disaster or the date the loss becomes apparent.

Producers are limited to $100,000 in benefits per person per crop per year.
