Day wins 3 medals at home meet
The Hillsboro High School boys track team finished fifth out of 12 teams Friday at the James Thomas Invitational in Hillsboro.
Mitchell Day won the most medals of any Hillsboro athlete. He placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.05 seconds, third in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 3.5 inches, and sixth in the 200, 25.60.
Joel Allen won the 3200 with a time of 10:38.01 and placed second in the 1600, 4:46.40. He was also part of the second-place 4x800 relay team with Justin King, Josh Richert, and Bret Mueller, 8:57.44.
Shaq Thiessen won the long jump with a leap of 21-8.5 and placed fifth in the high jump, 5-10.
Avery Franz placed fifth in the long jump, 19-3.5, and sixth in the triple jump, 38-8.75.
Callie Serene won the 800 with a time of 2:31.69.
Kiara Espada placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 90-4.5.
Rhonda Rogers, Heather Mayfield, Maci Kelsey, and Karina Torres finished third in the 4x100 relay, 55.04.
