Demolition incentive approved
Marion County Commissioners approved a resolution Monday to waive fees for some demolition debris, beginning April 1.
Resolution No. 10-05 waives transfer station fees for the first 10 approved applicants for up to 25 tons of residential building material. An asbestos inspection prior to demolition will be required to qualify.
Stone, asphalt, brick, concrete, dirt, metals, and hazardous materials will be disallowed from the program. Commissioners approved the program to give property owners incentives to demolish derelict buildings.
Applications will be available at the Marion County Planning and Zoning Office, 230 E. Main St., Marion. Applications require a description of the project and a photograph.
The commission will re-evaluate the program after six months.
