Distinguished Tabor alumna to give commencement

Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary Associate Dean and Associate Professor of History and Theology Dr. Valerie Rempel will give the commencement address for Tabor College at 10 a.m. May 21 at Joel H. Wiens Stadium.

Rempel is an alumna of Tabor College, receiving her bachelor’s degree in social work in 1978. She also holds a master’s degree from the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary and a doctorate from Vanderbilt University.

She serves on the Board of Directors of the Mennonite Health Services Alliance and is a member of the Faith and Life Commission of the Mennonite World Conference. She was co-editor of “The Voice of a Writer,” a collection of essays honoring Tabor College Professor Emeritus Katie Funk Wiebe.

“I am committed to inviting distinguished Tabor alumni to return to campus to speak at our commencement,” Tabor College President Jules Glanzer said of Rempel’s selection. “I want our graduates to experience Tabor alumni who have a record of significant accomplishments and are involved in a life of service. Dr. Rempel is such an alumna.”

In the event of inclement weather, commencement will be in the Hillsboro High School gymnasium.
