Dog rescued from jagged window

After a concerned neighbor reported a case of possible animal neglect, Hillsboro officer David Funk rescued a yelping dog in distress Saturday in the 300 block of N. Washington St.

When Funk arrived, the dog, a 60-pound lab mix, was inside its owner’s residence near a broken window that had jagged glass hanging from its wooden frame.

“It could have fallen and cut the dog,” he said. “She could’ve got hurt.”

Funk learned that the window had been open so the dog could jump outside into the house’s yard. A metal window frame lay on the ground.

“When she jumped back into the house, her lead got caught on the aluminum frame and restricted its mobility,” Funk said. “She was unhappy to be hung up like that, but I managed to calm her down enough to unhook the lead from its collar, unwrap it, and then hook it back up.”

He examined the dog but found no sign of injury.

Funk declined to give more details the incident remains as it is under investigation.
