Doris Regier
Doris Louise Regier, rural Newton and Kidron Bethel, was born May 22, 1932, to Titus and Elizabeth (Winey) Horst in Newton, Kansas. Doris grew up on a farm in the Highland community north of Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1950. Doris graduated from the Bethel nursing program in 1955 as a registered nurse.
She was baptized in First Church of the Nazarene, Newton, Kansas, and was a member of Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing, Kansas. Doris met Menno Regier in Kansas City and they were married April 1, 1957, making their home on a farm in rural Newton.
Doris loved nursing and balanced various nursing positions with that of being a homemaker. She enjoyed entertaining her grandchildren and in particular looked forward to summer harvest when all the grandchildren would come to the farm to “help” with wheat harvest. Doris also enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader.
She is survived by two sons, Myron and wife Lori of Haysville, Kansas, and James and wife Debra of Whitewater, Kansas; and a sister, Grace Ketterman of Leawood, Kansas. Doris had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Menno, three brothers, and two sisters.
Visitation was from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service was at 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2018, at Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing, Kansas. Private family burial will be at Zion Mennonite Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Bethel College nursing program and may be sent to Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main St., Newton KS 67114.
