Dorothy Lawrence

Dorothy Louise Lawrence, formerly of Marion, passed away Feb. 28, 2018, at Emporia at the age of 91.

She was born May 1, 1926, at Olpe, Kansas. From age 13 she was raised by Leonard and Anna Petitt. She was a graduate of Ozawkie High School.

She was united in marriage to Earl Lawrence on Sept. 19, 1948. They made their home in Cottonwood Falls, then Florence, and moved to Marion in the mid-1950s. Three daughters were born to this union: Marian, Jan, and Cheryl.

For many years, Dorothy served in the Marion County register of deeds office. She was a member of Marion Christian Church and active in Christian Women’s Fellowship at the church.

Her husband Earl preceded her in death in 1998.

She is survived by daughters Marian Wood and husband, Mike, and Jan Collins and husband, Phil, all of Emporia; and Cheryl Young and husband, Dan, of Olathe; grandchildren Jeff Wood and Alison Sipra; and great-grandchildren Nicholas and Anna Sipra.

A funeral service was Monday, March 5, 2018, at Marion Christian Church, with interment at Marion Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Marion Christian Church.
