Driver moving into the Futura

Staff writer

Greg Graham found his perfect sports car a couple of weeks ago in Blue Springs, Missouri.

The 1965 Ford Falcon Futura painted in what Graham calls “arrest me, officer red,” is an identical twin of one he owned from 1977 to 1989 and has missed ever since he sold it.

“I drove it to the East Coast and West Coast six times and then took it to Hawaii when I was in the Navy,” Graham said.

He got pulled over several times in California because officers suspected his first Falcon was not street legal, but it was.

When Graham found the perfect replacement car, he found the perfect license plate as well — a red 1965 Marion County license plate.

For a Falcon, its front-bumper vanity plate is perfect as well. It reads, “I’d rather be flying.”

He’s already gotten new wheels and tires and is already showing the Falcon off on the road.

Later he’ll make modifications to the engine to make the car more powerful.

The car is valued at $16,000 by his insurance company.

He plans to show the car April 28 at the seventh annual Throttle Jockeys car show and drag races at Herington.
