Driveway accident sends two to hospital

Staff writer

A passenger in a Saturday night accident was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Wichita and the driver to Hillsboro Community Hospital after the driver hit a tree in a driveway.

Undersheriff David Huntley said dispatch was called at 10:26 p.m. Saturday when Eldon Kaiser, 64, Lehigh, lost control of his car and hit a tree while driving out of a driveway. The accident occurred 440 feet north of the roadway at 578 230th Rd.

Julie Kaiser, 59, a passenger in the car, was taken to St. Francis.

The accident report states there was no adverse weather at the time, but dispatches recorded by Marion County Record indicate adverse weather conditions kept a helicopter from responding to the accident. Both Kaisers were taken to hospitals by Marion County ambulances.

Huntley said neither of the Kaisers was wearing seat belts.

Four other passengers, Ryan Kaiser, 32, Lehigh; Kale Thiessen, 37, Hillsboro; Allison Schultz, 42, Lehigh; and Scott Schultz, 41, Lehigh, did not report injury.
