Eagles dominate Lady Bluebirds

Canton-Galva captured third place in the Bluebird Classic Saturday, drubbing the Bluebirds, 52-28.

Outside taking an early 4-2 lead with baskets from Elizabeth Alderfer and Elizabeth Schmucker, mistakes, along with the Eagles’ pressuring defense, put Canton-Galva up 14-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Goessel couldn’t get going the second quarter and the deficit stretched to 26-12 by halftime.

With the game already slipping away with the Bluebirds down 36-20, a 15-0 Eagle run made for a running clock the rest of the way.

Stephany Meyer led the Bluebirds with 11 points, Schmucker chipped in six, and Alderfer added four.

On Friday, Central Christian grabbed an early lead and never looked back, cruising to a 55-26 win.

Eight points was the best the Bluebirds could do in a quarter, adding up to 15-8, 32-13, and 37-21 deficits at the end.

Meyer again was the lone Bluebird in double figures with 10 points, followed by Smith’s seven, and Alderfer’s six.

The Goessel girls stand at 1-3 on the year, opening Wheat State League play Friday at Peabody.
