Those helping with city elections within the county will receive a pay increase this year, as proposed by County clerk Tina Spencer.
Commissioners voted Monday to increase the pay of poll site workers for clerks and judges from $90 to $100 per day, and site workers for supervising judges from $100 to $125 per day.
Those working at the courthouse on election night as clerks and judges will receive an increase from $7.50 per hour to $8 per hour, and those working for supervising judges will increase from $8.50 to $9 per hour.
In the past also, workers were paid an extra $10 to attend a two-hour training session. That rate now is $15.
The last time poll site workers received an increase was in 2006.
“You’ve got to appreciate the people who come year after year after year,” Commissioner Dan Holub said.
In addition, Marion and Hillsboro city general elections will use only one polling location, where two locations were used in the past.
Spencer said since the upcoming elections are small, she did not believe it was financially responsible to have two locations. The hope is to use the Hillsboro City Building and the Marion Community Center ballroom.
In other business:
- Commissioners approved guidelines for burning when local authorities do not impose a burn ban. Commissioners also extended the current burn ban through Feb. 10.
