Elgin Bartel

Elgin Bartel, 93, of Hillsboro died April 16 at Salem Home. He was born Oct. 8, 1920, to Henry J. and Eva (Bartel) Bartel in Hillsboro.

He married Evelyn Wedel in 1952. She preceded him in death in 1975. He then married Rubena Leppke in 1979. She preceded him in death in 2013.

He is survived by four sons, Rollind Bartel of Hillsboro, Keith Bartel of Wichita, Ron Klaassen of Newark, N.J., and Kevin Klaassen of Big Spring, Texas; three daughters, Kay Ferrell of Wichita, Loretta Paxton of Wichita, and Diane Ewert of Wichita; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life was Saturday at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro. Visitation was Friday at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

A memorial fund has been established with Meals on Wheels.
